Convert Internal DVD-RW Drive to External

Hi buddies,

Recently i bought Samsung DVD-Burner and it is an Internal Drive. I had installed it to my room computer and it performed very well until impress me by burning 4 Gigabytes of data in just 8 minutes using 8x speed (11mb/sec). But somehow, my room computer did not perform well after i bought my laptop and this laptop only has DVD Combo which means it will Read DVD, Read CD and Burn CD but won't burn DVD. I used to download movies from internet and the capacity is almost 700MB +- for each movie. Generally, this situation placed me into a need for DVD Burners as i don't wish to delete the movies after watching it, i want to save it all in DVDs and keep it for later use just to prove that i have watched many movies maybe. A new External DVD Burner will cost RM 310 (samsung) or RM 450 (sony). I have a internal DVD burner that i just bought for RM 135 which i installe to my room pc, so all i need is just a solution to make that internal DVD to an external DVD and make it suit for my laptop. I did a small research on how to do it.

The best information that i get is, we need 5.25" Enclosure to make the Internal drive to External. This enclosure is not so different to the normal hard disk enclosure (2.5" and 3.5"). And the difference were the size is bigger and it need an external pwer supply. USB power won;t be sufficient for it to work. It need an external power supply which comes together in the 5.25" Enclosure. I found the cheapest hardware at lelong for RM 60. I went to Digital Mall and looked all around there for this Enclosure. Believe me, when i asked them 5.25" Enclosure, most of the shop peoples said that they don't have it but when i look at their showcase, they of course got it there and when asked about it, then only they said "oh, this is the 5.25 inch enclosure huh?" It return as a question to myself. Most shop priced the device between RM 130 to 199. This is silly, all i wanted is just a simply enclosure and around RM60 which waas available in Lelong. Shopping around and around and around whole over the Digital Mall and finally found the cheapest on for RM 75. It was pretty what i expected and searched for. I took it for that price.

Back home, i took the Internal Drive and fix it to the 5.25" Enclosure case. Plug the USB to my laptop and turn on the power. Wow... Finally what i wanted had happened! The USB device was automatically recognized by Windows XP and did not prompt for any driver. I burned 4 Gigabytes of movies using Nero and it worked very well by completing the burning procedures in just 8 minutes. Glad i experienced a new stuff. And now very glad that i had shared my experience here through blogging it. Good day all!

Acer Aspire 3684 series is using Atheros AR5007EG

hi all,

Today i experience a new thing, well Acer Aspire 3683 is using Atheros AR5005EG Wireless LAN while newly launched Acer Aspire 3684 (with Camera) is using Atheros AR5007EG. And the worst part of the new device is the Driver Installation part. Installing the older Atheros is much easier than installing this new Atheros AR5007EG. When I install the Atheros driver, it often hang when it reached 75% of installation. Although I try to reinstall for about 3 or 4 times, it keep on hang. So I decided to try it on Safe Mode. I copied the driver to hard disk and installed it on Safe Mode. Finally it worked well. If you guys also come across this Atheros AR5007EG, go on to install the Driver in Safe Mode. The other drivers works very well in Windows normal mode.

Rescue wet SD Card and formating it...

Hi all,

SD Card refers to the most popular memory card - Secured Digital Cards that are used in many digital cameras now days. And accidentally falling it into a water can be the most horrible situation if any one of us face it. From my own experience, i had face that situation and would like to gie you some tips on recover the card and the photos on it. I did forgot that the card actually in my pants pocket and my mum washed that pant. On the other day, i got to know that she found the SD card in the wash machine. I was actually suprise with my own POOR MEMORY power. The SD Card was given to me ad it was dry. When i placed it to my laptop, i could not access it. It showed I/O Error. While i tried on my digital camera "Canon PowerShot" while it showed "Memory Card Error". This definately scared me off because i need to use the card 2moro for an event. All i could is give it a try to recover it. The most useful tip that we all should know is "all IT stuffs need to warm". The more hot your card is, the more better the life-time for your It stuffs escpecially chips. SD card is also some sort of Memory Chips. So i took a hair-dryer and warmed the SD card until it really got very hot. Then i placed it to my latop. Lucky i was, my laptop now detected the card and i could see all the photos in it. I did transfer the photos to my hard disk. Then i put it back to camera and it worked. Again i too the SD card out and tried to format it on my laptop. I used FAT32 to format. After that i put it to the camera and suprise, once again faced "Memory Card Error". I did something and something and something to figure out the problem but i couldn't. Finally i decided to format the card back using FAT (not FAT32) which is actually belogging to old DOS system. Here is the key points, FAT - for DOS systems, FAT32 - for Win32 such as Windows 98, and NTFS - for NT system such as Windows XP. And was very glad that the SD card finally worked both on my laptop and camera. Lucky escape from spending RM 50 on buying new card. The moral of the story is 'hair-dryer' has many purposes else that just drying our hairs. While always format SD Card using FAT system rather than FAT32! Happy Day...

BlogSpot.com/Blogger.com is worst blog hosting...

Hi,

In my first blog, i have told that i selected Google's blog hosting - blogger.com and blogspot to host my blogs and now i realize that i did a mistake. This google blogger is not up to the speed that a blog hosting should have. Believe me, Google Blog server only give download speed of 3kb per second. This is so called "poor speed". An Blog hosting server should at least respond at 10kb per second. Besides, to post a new message to blog, i need to wait for about 1 minute for this blog session actually opens. This is so poor speed and not satisfying me. A server's upload per session is our download per session. Google definately need a better upload server to host us with good download speed. By the way, recently have you guys realize that Google's search engine had actually slow down compared to Yahoo? Although Yahoo's first page loads slow but the search page is much more better than Google's page. This is because recently google started to analyze all the incoming and outgoing clicks. When we search on google and click on the result link to go to the particular website, the click never goes straight to the website as previously it was. Now it is slighly different as the click will go to google analyze page and then out click activity recorded on google-analytic.com server and returns forwarding us to the real website that we wanted to at the first click. This was done to enable Google can know where do people clicking to and they could own a complete statistic of the search engine users including you and me. This is an advantage to google but on the other hand, this had slow down their website and being a reason to be classified as disadvantage of google. Hope google won't drawn in this search engine service which is their main source to gain revenue from advertisings. And they had opened this Google Analytics option to all user to apply on their own website or even blogs and start tracking. But all the tracking report is actually stored and handled by the Google server itself. Google never stop giving free services which is very good and plus for them but they really need a push over their server speeds.

Notebook in push by technology, Camera missed due to rush...

Hi all,

End of February 2007 i bought this Acer Aspire 3683 (without Windows XP) notebook and cost me RM 1999. This is the real market price and i was satisfied buying it on that time. 1 week later, on begining March 2007, i was shocked with the new release which was exactly same as my model but this time, the notebook has build in CMOS Camera. Freaky! I missed this camera notebook due to hurry and rushing in buying this notebook.

After 2 months later, today i went to Digital Mall and saw the notebook (with camera) for only RM 1699. Of my god, this means i wasted RM 300 because i went to Jaya Shopping Complex which is actually located beside Digital Mall and was so stupid to but the notebook from Pineapple Computers. On the other hand, Notebook shop on 1st floor of Digital Mall having it only for RM 1699. While the competitive Compaq Presario brand is just RM 1799. Wow... The different is Compaq has DVD Burner while Acer's option do not have it.

Well, mind this blog is just to inform you that Digital Mall is absolutely a wonderful place for IT lovers to shop around for a good deal which i was so late to realise. But its ok, life teaches me new experience. The moral of this story is that, Regan is not always Smart Regan and somehow my rushing character can make me fail out to be a real Stupid Regan to waste RM 300 on the notebook purchasing. Life is so wonderful. What ever you guys out there want to buy, go to Low Yat or Digital Mall. I strongly suggest Digital Mall better than Low Yat because it is more easier for those who live around Selangor (PJ, SJ, Sunway, Puchong, CJ).
